SUNDAY AUGUST 31, 2014 – THE WEST ELK BICYCLE CLASSIC Presented by Western State Colorado University and the Mountain Sports Program

The West Elk Bicycle Classic (aka, the West Elk) is a mass start road bike tour the goes from Gunnison to Crested Butte….the long way! The route is via the Black Mesa highway, Crawford, Paonia and Kebler Pass (yeah, we know. It’s not paved!) Great stuff and 135 quality miles. Registration for this third year event is already way up over last year. Check out our new website:

The West Elk is a huge undertaking and, if we can continue to hit the ball out of the park as for organization and support, it should grow into a Colorado classic and a great way to spread the word about Western State Colorado University.

To this end, we need help! Primarily, we need volunteers to staff aid stations, drive vehicles, help with venue setup, etc., etc. You are a special bonus volunteer if you can provide a larger vehicle (and/or trailer) that can haul bikes, bodies or both. We need to transport bikes and riders in various directions throughout the day of the event, Sunday August 31st.

Additionally, if any of you are also interested in helping with planning and organization over the next few weeks, let us know. We have all kinds of great things that need to be done.

Please contact me if you are interested in being a part of this event which showcases, not just an amazing route and our two valley communities, but also Western State Colorado University, our campus and our people. Thanks for considering!
