The Hartman Rocks area opens today with a few temporary closures in place do to remaining snow and mud

This from our friends at our local BLM field office:

April 13, 2017 – Portions of the Bureau of Land Management’s Hartman Rocks Recreation Area will re-open for the snow-free season today.

The roads and trails north of the power line are open for mechanized and motorized travel. All of the roads and trails south of the power line will remain closed for Gunnison Sage-grouse conservation until May 15, 2017. The Enchanted Forest trail is still snow covered and will remain closed until further notice. The south end of Main Street will remain closed until a large impassible snow drift melts.

There are still a few snow covered and wet spots along trails and roads, and people recreating on those routes should stay on the trail tread in order to prevent resource damage and trail braiding.

Remember to be safe, stay on designated routes and stay north of the Power Line Road until May 15.

A quick “shout-out” with a big THANKS to Gunnison County, The City of Gunnison, Gunnison Trails and Gunnison Valley OHV Alliance of Trailriders for helping with the Hartman Rocks spring opening!
