The mornings have been crisp and the leaves are starting to change, so it’s officially time to celebrate National Public Lands Day! Join us next Saturday, 9/14, at 9am as we break ground on the newest section of the Northwoods trail in Signal Peak. We’re proud to partner with Pinnacle Orthopedics and Sports Medicine to bring you our biggest workday of the year! This new section of Northwoods is just under 1.5 miles in length and will connect the east end of Northwoods to the top of South Rim trail, making for a mega-loop high atop Signal Mesa. There’s sage brush, gnarled trees, old school singletrack, shale – this piece of trail has it all! Parking is limited, so please consider riding, carpooling with others, or jumping in one of the GT trucks to keep traffic to a minimum. If you’d like a ride, contact [email protected] to secure a spot – we’ll be meeting at the GT office at 8:15am.
We’re building all new trail in some rugged country, so please remember good boots/shoes, pants, sunglasses, a good hat, sunscreen, snacks/lunch and plenty of water. We’ll have loads of Honey Stinger waffles, water and Osmo hydration mix to get you through the work, as well as pizza from Mario’s and some tasty brews for after the workday. All volunteers receive a FREE public lands day tee and Natl. Parks Pass thanks to our friends at the BLM!
Directions – we’ll be meeting at the top of Signal Mesa where BLM 3211c intersects the Gunnison Spur Rd. 3108 at 9am. Take highway 50 east for 3.75 miles and turn LEFT onto BLM 3211c (there will be a bright yellow TRAIL WORK sign on the left side of the highway). The turn is just across from AM Salvage Barnwood, the timber-framing business. After turning off Highway 50, take your first left through a green BLM gate (make sure to close the gate behind you), and drive another 4 miles up BLM 3211c. Good clearance and 4WD is highly recommended.
A big shoutout to Pinnacle Orthopedics and Sports Medicine for sponsoring this day and making it all happen! It takes a village to pull these events off and we are grateful to our partners and sponsors for how they support our work. We hope to see you there!
