We’re linking it all together! Join us this coming Saturday, June 11, from 9am-3pm to finish construction on the new Sunny D trail (aka the trail formerly known as Southern Cross). With just over half the trail fully constructed, we’ve got another 1.5 miles to go, linking the farthest reaches of South Rim with the end of the Contour trail. Our trail crew, along with a crew from the Colorado Mountain Club, the STOR Corps. and the BLM trail crew, were up there all last week getting things prepped and finish work completed on the upper half of the trail (built fall 2021).

Directions – take highway 50 east for 3.75 miles and turn LEFT onto BLM 3211D (there will be a bright yellow TRAILWORK sign on the left side of the highway). The turn is just across from AM Salvage Barnwood, the timber-framing business. After turning off Highway 50, take a left through a green BLM gate (make sure to close the gate behind you), and drive another 1.5 miles up BLM 3211d. 4WD is recommended, although any vehicle with AWD and decent clearance should be fine. We encourage you to carpool or ride to the workday (riding S. Rim all the way east to it’s end will get you there) to keep traffic and impacts to a minimum.

It’s rugged sage country, with plenty of rock (seriously, like a lot of rock), so be sure to wear sturdy shoes, gloves, a good sun hat and bring plenty of water and sunscreen. We’ll work until 3pm and then relax with a BBQ and cold refreshments.
